Make It Monday: How To Peel A Head of Garlic in 10 Seconds

Here at the Common Housefly Test Kitchen we love fresh garlic. But for recipes that call for more than one or two cloves we always dread the process of peeling the garlic so we can slice or mince it. BUT NO MORE! We have found Nirvana in this method for peeling large quantities of garlic in seconds.

No...really. I was skeptical at first. But I tried it and it works like a charm.

The process is so simple. You will need to metal mixing bowls of roughly the same size, but other than that there are no other tools needed.

First, separate the number of cloves that you need from the full head of garlic. If you want, you can do a full head of garlic.

Next, put all the garlic cloves into one of the bowls. Then invert the second bowl over the first and SHAKE THE BOWLS. Shake for 10-20 seconds and you are done. Just pick out the peeled garlic cloves from the bowl and continue on with your recipe.

Be prepared to laugh at yourself while you are doing this. When I first did it I laughed out loud at the sound the garlic was making in the bowl. Mrs. Common Housefly stuck her head into the kitchen to see What Was I Up To.

But when we looked inside the bowl and saw all the perfectly peeled garlic we were floored. IT REALLY WORKS!

I have used this a few more times since my initial experiment and it continues to perform flawlessly.
